REGISTER YOUR INTEREST NOW FOR #GETONSIDE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Women looking to build careers in the football industry are being invited to apply for the amazing opportunities made available by dozens of organisations and individuals as part of Women in Football's #GetOnside campaign.

Since the initiative launched in September, inviting pledges of action to support gender equality in football, many people have have come forward to offer opportunities to women looking to gain professional guidance and experience in the industry.

While the internships and programmes of mentoring on offer will mostly run during 2022, anyone interested in applying for places can register their interest now by contacting Women in Football.

Here are some of the opportunities that are available…

 

Media

  • Shadowing and mentoring opportunities are on offer from a number of established journalists and broadcasters: Eilidh Barbour, Jamie Gardner, Sam Matterface, Michael McCann and Jacqui Oatley. Details of similar opportunities with Kelly Somers and Faye Carruthers will be announced in the new year
  • Similarly, Andy Hipkiss of the talent agency Triple A Media has pledged to mentor two women looking to build careers in sports broadcasting
  • Girls on the Ball will showcase other women's football media creators by hosting takeovers of their digital channels for one day a month
  • talkSPORT will provide two paid six-month internships for women to cover UEFA Women's EURO 2022 – more details coming soon!
  • Kieran Theivam, the FA's Communications Manager, will mentor two female Asian journalists or communications professionals to improve the representation of the Asian community in the media
  • When Saturday Comes magazine has launched a mentoring scheme to give three aspiring journalists an insight into the industry, with a paid outcome

 

Coaching and management

  • Willie Kirk, manager of Everton Women, has pledged to mentor an aspiring female coach
  • The League Managers Association (LMA) is offering places on the LMA Diploma in Football Management and access to an LMA-trained mentor
  • Upshot pledges to help three women get into coaching, from funding their first qualification to providing ongoing support to help them thrive
  • Coach Nisha Vyas is offering a free one-to-one transformational coaching package for three months

 

Other opportunities

  • Barclays, the lead partner of Women in Football, has pledged to provide a career development day, offering insight, inspiration and development opportunities to support the progress of women in the football industry
  • Aston Villa are offering paid internships to two women – one at Villa Park and one at their Bodymoor Heath training centre
  • Brighton & Hove Albion are setting up a group of aspiring female marketeers tasked with helping to develop inclusive match attendance plans
  • Onside Law is offering work experience for four women aspiring to a career in sports law – please get in touch with them for more information
  • Player Care Group is offering a free place on its Certificate in Player Care course
  • The Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) and Premier League assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis are offering support for women looking to careers as match officials
  • Ben Purkiss, the PFA Chairman, will work with young women to support their career pathway into the football industry – applications will open in November
  • The University of Liverpool is offering two full-fee scholarships to women to study for its Football Industries MBA
