Karen Bardsley, Man City and Lionesses' goalkeeper, meets attendees on Day 1 of the Leadership Courses
A full house made up of women of all ages and experience levels played their part to ensure Women in Football's week-long stay in Manchester got off to a flying start with the Day 1 Leadership Course.
Attendees from UCFB may just be starting out ion their journey but joined forces with other women who have already made great strides in their careers for a fascinating and uplifting day in Manchester at the splendid City Football Academy facility.
Women in Football chair Ebru Köksal led the morning sessions and talked with her usual candour about her incredible journey and experiences - encouraging others to share their personal journey as much as possible.
The afternoon kicked off - quite literally - with Man City and Lionesses' goalkeeper, Karen Bardsley, who came to speak to the Day 1 attendees with sports psychologist Lorraine O'Malley from MCFC.
Karen hit the right note immediately and got the session going by playing the Pointer Sisters, bouncing a giant beachball as she came in. It was quite an entrance!
Both Karen and Lorraine then talked openly and passionately about the journey of discovery Karen has been on, sharing how she's learned to overcome hurdles such as her recent injury - as well as how she's become closer to her teammates and discovered more about herself and what makes her happy.
Karen also asked the attendees about their workplace challenges and how they've discovered who they are as leaders. It was fascinating to hear others share their stories and experiences too in a safe environment.
Once Karen and Lorraine had wrapped up their session, Ebru returned and handed the attendees a wide range of challenges - and if you've not heard of 'Scottish Lemons' you really are missing out!
Ebru continued by speaking about skills such as managing your boss, negotiations and different leadership styles, answering questions and sharing her vast expert knowledge.
Day 1 came to an end with welcome drinks for the attendees in Manchester City CFA's Media Area; a fitting end to a busy and inspirational first day.
